Bhubaneswar to get National Gallery of Modern Art soon

In a piece of good news, the Central government has approved the establishment of a branch of the National Gallery of Modern Art (NGMA) in Bhubaneswar, MP Aparajita Sarangi informed on Sunday.

Taking to her X (formerly known as Twitter) MP Sarangi shared the news and wrote, “Met Minister Sri @gssjodhpur , GoI,& reminded him of my request for a Branch of National Gallery of Modern Art at Bhubaneswar. Pursuant to my meeting with Hon"ble CM Sri @MohanMOdisha, he had also sent a written request to Sri Shekhawat for the same. I was assured of all support.”

In September 2024, MP Sarangi had submitted a memorandum to the Union Culture and Tourism Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, advocating for the NGMA branch in Bhubaneswar.

She also emphasised that Odisha's rich cultural heritage and vibrant arts scene make it an ideal location for such an institution. Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi also supported this proposal, highlighting the State's unique artistic traditions and the potential benefits of the gallery to the region.

The NGMA branch is expected to enhance Bhubaneswar's cultural landscape, offering a platform for local artists and attracting tourists. It will serve as a significant resource for art enthusiasts, students, and researchers, fostering cultural exchanges and collaborations.

The establishment of this art gallery is anticipated to commence soon, further cementing Bhubaneswar's status as a hub of art and culture.
