Traffic Congestion In Bhubaneswar
The rise in traffic congestion in Bhubaneswar has now prompted the Odisha government to undertake plans to construct more Ring Roads and overbridges in the capital city. Such measures aim to address the persistent issue of traffic congestion owing to rapid urban expansion, informed Housing and Urban Development Minister Krishna Chandra Mohapatra on Sunday.
Talking to reporters, the Minister stated that the Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi had already convened two meetings to rigorously discuss solutions such as constructing Ring Roads and overbridges at strategic points across the city. Immediate planning directives have been issued, emphasising the urgent need to relieve traffic jams.
In tandem with infrastructure initiatives, efforts are also being made to galvanise the city's public transport system. The introduction of double-decker bus services marks one such move. Minister Krishna Chandra Mahapatra said that these buses are set to offer a viable alternative for daily commuters, lessening road congestion effectively.

The Minister further said that traffic congestion is a serious issue in Bhubaneswar. Chief Minister has already held meetings twice to discuss ways to decongest roads by constructing Ring Roads, flyovers and other measures for the benefit of people. NHAI, PWD and other officials along with water resources department officials attended the meeting. The state government is also focusing on extensive use of public transport via buses. Other issues are also being seriously taken up by the government.
The issue of Ring Road is in the planning stage and instructions have been issued to finalise issues including road, land acquisition and other aspects. There are also proposals for over bridges at maximum places in Bhubaneswar. The focus will be given to coming up with such facilities at places where there is acute congestion. A detailed review will be conducted in this regard and a concrete plan will be made after all aspects are finalised, the Minister said.
