Bhubaneswar to become stray cattle-free

In good news for commuters, Bhubaneswar will be soon free of stray cattle. In a significant development, the Odisha government has announced plans to construct a model gaushala (cow shelter) in the state capital at an estimated cost of Rs 40 crore. 

Urban Development Minister Krushna Chandra Mahapatra informed about the development on Thursday. 

The Minister informed that the stray cattle roaming the city will be accommodated in this facility. He also informed that the process of land identification and related formalities in this regard will begin soon.

Cow dung and urine will be processed to produce various products. The Minister further stated that as many as five gaushalas are planned across different locations to address the stray cattle issue in various cities.

"The process has already started since the day our government was formed. The Chief Minister has allotted gaushalas to six Municipalities on Swayat Sasan Divas. Quality gaushalas will be constructed and good Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) are being prepared. A gaushala will be constructed at Jaleswar at an estimated cost of Rs 7 crore. In some other places it will be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 5 crore. The gaushalas will have all kinds of facilities. To prevent accidents of Gomatas and commuters, our department has taken the initiative to construct kanjia huda and gaushalas," said Urban Development Minister Krushna Chandra Mahapatra.

"In Bhubaneswar also we will lay the foundation stones for gaushalas. A model gaushala will be constructed in the state capital at an estimated cost of Rs 40 crore. It will be a model gaushala in the state where cow dung and urine will be processed to produce various products including medicines that will be used for the service of the mankind," the Minister added.
