Bhubaneswar’s ‘New City Project’: From skyscrapers to sports hubs, check all facilities and proposals
Odisha is looking beyond conventional urban development by joining hands with Singapore to design and build a futuristic city on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar.
The project, approved by the state Cabinet, spans 800 acres and carries an investment tag of Rs 8,179 crore. Officials said the initiative will not only change the city’s skyline but also reposition Odisha as an emerging urban hub in eastern India.
Urban Development Minister Krushna Chandra Mahapatra said the project was inspired by Gujarat’s double-city model but would be tailored to Odisha’s needs with Singapore’s expertise in city planning. The collaboration was cemented via MoU signed during the Singaporean President’s recent visit to India.
“This city will bring together high-rise buildings, world-class sports infrastructure, green fields, and strong commercial zones, while ensuring inclusivity through human resource development,” Mahapatra added.
The Detailed Project Report (DPR), prepared at a cost of Rs 16.23 lakh, has received cabinet approval. Once developed, the city is expected to attract both domestic and global companies, creating jobs and driving growth in sectors ranging from IT to manufacturing.

Government officials said the project fits into the broader roadmap to make Odisha a developed state by 2036, the centenary year of its formation. By embracing global partnerships and modern infrastructure planning, the state hopes to set a benchmark for sustainable, smart urban growth in India’s east.
