Bhubaneswar residents urinate inside BMC office as protest over poor drainage system

Fed up with the filthy smell and poor drainage system in their area, residents of ward-45 Sabar Sahi in Bhubaneswar staged a unique protest by urinating in the chamber of the City Engineer in the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) office. Angry residents queued outside the City Engineer’s house and urinated inside his chamber as a sign of protest.

The unique protest has grabbed eyeballs while netizens are divided over the act.

According to sources, drain repair work has been lying incomplete for months in Sabar Sahi, forcing people to live in the filthy smell with drain water flowing into their houses. Despite repeated complaints, no one pays heed to the plight of the residents.

As a sign of protest, angry residents reached out to the City Engineer at the BMC office to look into their plight. Later, they allegedly urinated inside his chamber to show him how it feels to live in a urinated area and the filthy smell emanating from it.

“I don’t understand despite several complaints, no action is being taken. I have informed the City engineer. However, the BMC only shifts the blame to the sewerage and electricity department. They said that there was no co-operation from other departments,” alleged Amaresh Jena, corporator of ward-45.

“BMC is sitting idle on all the complaints by common people. With no other option, people go on with their normal lives. So, the BMC should be held accountable,” he stated.

No comments could be obtained from the BMC in this regard.
