Bhubaneswar Rain
Heavy downpour lashed Bhubaneswar, on Thursday, flooding key parts of the city and causing widespread disruption to daily life. Among the worst-hit areas was Badagada Laxmisagar Road, where severe waterlogging paralysed traffic and left residents distressed over delayed drainage efforts.
In the Badagada Canal Road locality, water levels surged alarmingly, rising to 8–10 feet in certain pockets. Rain water breached homes, forcing families to shift their belongings to higher ground. Panic-stricken residents were seen wading through waist-deep water, many voicing frustration over civic agencies’ lack of preparedness despite repeated monsoon warnings.
Several people faced severe problems and reported extensive damage as rainwater entered their houses.
Fire Service teams rushed to the worst-affected zones, deploying high-capacity pump sets to drain the stagnant water. After hours of relentless effort, a section of the Badagada Laxmisagar Road was eventually opened to allow water to flow out, offering partial relief to the marooned neighbourhood.
This latest episode has reignited public anger over Bhubaneswar’s ageing drainage infrastructure. Residents are demanding long-term solutions to end the annual cycle of monsoon flooding, which they say exposes glaring gaps in urban planning and disaster management.
