The members of Chhatra Congress, the student wing of the party, on Monday demanded the arrest of late Odisha Minister Naba Das’ son Bishal Das in the sensational Range Rover mishap that resulted in the death of a girl recently.

The members of the wing protested in front of the Police Commissionerate office in Bhubaneswar near which the mishap took place on October 31.

As per reports, the Range Rover came down from the direction of 120 battalion and hit a two-wheeler at powerhouse square traffic signal. The impact of the collision was so severe that the bike rider duo was thrown off their vehicle at the busy intersection.

Following the mishap, the injured were rushed to the hospital for treatment. As per reports, while the CRPF jawan is currently undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar the woman, Lopamudra Sahu riding a pillion succumbed to her injuries.

Even seven days after the mishap, neither the police nor the registered owners of the luxury vehicle have come forward to issue any statement on the matter.

Sources said the Range Rover is registered in the name of Armour Ray Ventures Private Limited. One of the directors of the company happens to be Bishal Das, son of slain minister Naba Kishore Das.

Protesting at the Police Commissionerate office, Student Congress president Yasir Nawaz said, “Everybody knows Bishal Das drives his car too fast. That is why the life of an innocent girl is lost. But the police are trying to shield him only because he belongs to a rich and powerful family that is associated with the Biju Janata Dal (BJD).”

“I reiterate that there are no laws for BJD leaders and their relatives. Every eyewitness of the mishap saw Bishal Das driving the car while hitting the bike. But the police are mum about him. They are not even releasing the CCTV footage of that time. Instead, they have let Das leave Odisha,” Nawaz alleged.

The Congress demanded arrest of the actual perpetrator and compensation of Rs 1 crore to Lopamudra’s family and Rs 50 lakh to the injured jawan’s family.
