Good news for animal lovers. Under an exchange programme, Nandankanan Zoological Park in Bhubaneswar has received species like the Gangetic Softshell turtle, Great White pelican, Himalayan griffin vulture, and Greater Adjutant stork from the Assam State Zoo and Botanical Garden, Guwahati.

With this exchange programme, two new species- Greater Adjutant Stork and Himalayan Griffin Vulture- have been added to the animal collection of Nandankanan. Similarly, the Gangetic Soft Shell Turtle was brought to pair with the existing one. The Great White Pelican will also help infuse new bloodline to the existing stock, the Zoo authorities said.

In exchange, Nandankanan Zoo will be sharing its surplus species, which include the Painted Stork, Mandarin Duck, Spot Billed Pelican, Blackbuck, and Back Headed Ibis.

To improve the animal stock in the zoo, Nandankanan has executed the fourth animal exchange programme in the past one year.
