A journalist has sustained critical injuries after he was allegedly attacked by miscreants in Bhubaneswar late Saturday night. The injured journalist has been identified as Jyotiranjan.

As per initial reports, the miscreants attacked Jyotiranjan with swords when he was returning to his home in VSS Nagar area. The miscreants have also looted cash and other valuables from the journalists.

The bike-borne miscreants intercepted Jyotiranjan and escaped after attacking him with sharp-edged weapons. Following the incident, Jyotiranjan has been admitted to Capital Hospital.

The incident has raised questions about the safety of the working journalists in Bhubaneswar.

Meanwhile,  21 drivers were apprehended on Saturday night at several places in Bhubaneswar for driving under the influence of alcohol.

The Commissionerate Police has registered 21 cases against those drivers and seized as many vehicles.

Meanwhile, Odisha Congress has condemned the attack. Taking to its X handle, it said, “A brutal attack on young journalist Jyoti Ranjan Mohapatra shows the lawlessness of the capital City, Bhubaneswar. The freedom of speech is suppressed. It seems like that Nobody is safe in Modi-Naveen misrule. We highly condemn it. We demand strict action against the goons.”

BJP leader Biranchi Narayan Tripathy too took a swipe at the BJD and said that the attack on the journalist is highly condemnable. As the question is being raised on the policies of the state government, the attack has been done with rancor and vengeance, Tripathy observed, demanding immediate arrest of the accused.
