In a major breakthrough, the Infocity Police in Bhubaneswar foiled a robbery bid on a liquor shop and arrested a gang of robbers late on Wednesday night.

As per reports, police received information about the presence of some robbers on the Patia playground on Wednesday night. As police raided the place, five robbers tried to flee but were finally caught. They were planning to loot a liquor shop last night, police said.

The accused have been identified as the mastermind SK Islam, Romi Nayak, Kartik Behera, Jitendra Samal, and K Shivaji.

The main accused Islam has 48 cases pending against him. After being released on bail, he has been committing crimes, informed sources.

Police said all the accused were involved in thefts and snatchings while staying at rented accommodations in various parts of Bhubaneswar.

Police have seized two iron rods, three sharp-edged weapons, liquor bottles, and other sedative material, he added.

The arrest of the robbers has come amid growing incidents of thefts in apartments.

ACP Ramesh Bisoi said, "They were armed with weapons on the Patia playground and were planning to rob a nearby liquor shop named Heartbeat Liquor Shop. Iron rods, swords, and liquor bottles were seized from them.”
