The much-awaited direct international flight connectivity to Dubai from Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) will finally take off on May 15. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik launched the ticket sale on the occasion of Utkal Dibasa on April 1. 

Launching the ticket sales, CM Naveen Patnaik said, “Connectivity is the key to development and it has been a focus area of our government. Direct international connectivity with Dubai, one of the biggest aviation hubs, will open up a direct gateway to the world. Not only it will provide seamless connectivity, but will have a huge multiply on investment in Odisha in sectors like IT, manufacturing, Tourism and Trade.”

The CM added, “This is the aspiration of new Odisha and I’m extremely happy to launch the ticket sale on Odisha Dibasa as a tribute to the founding fathers of Odisha. Finally, I thank everyone who have made this international flight operation possible.”

“I express my gratitude to the GOI and Ministry of Aviation and President of India for the smooth rollout,” he concluded.

The CM handed over the first eight tickets to Mission Shakti women, sportspersons, tribal leaders, Skilled in Odisha students and artists.

The CM also announced that two weeks later direct flights will also be started for Singapore and Bangkok from Bhubaneswar.

IndiGo Airlines will operate the direct flight from Biju Patnaik International Airport thrice a week. Inaugural ticket prices have been set to begin at Rs 10,000 per single side journey and Rs 20,000 for a round trip. Each flight will have these subsidized tickets on first come first serve basis.

Sharing the good news, IAP Prasanna Pradhan said, “As per the schedule, the flight connectivity will start from May 15. This is indeed a moment of pride for the people of Odisha. This was the dream of many Odias and the first time in history that a direct flight will fly from Bhubaneswar to Dubai.”
