BDA vice-chairman N. Thirumala Naik
The Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) is all set to introduce a new Comprehensive Development Plan (CDP) this year to expand urban and infrastructure planning across the region.
According to BDA Vice-Chairman N. Tirumala Naik, the updated plan currently includes 560 villages, covering an area of 1,122 square kilometers. Additionally, the authority has proposed to the state government the inclusion of 143 more villages under the new plan.
Officials said the CDP preparation is being executed in seven phases. To carry out detailed surveys in the 560 identified villages, the BDA has already floated tenders, and the selected agency will handle the survey operations. Public hearings have already been completed in several villages, with pending hearings and objection redressals planned for the remaining areas.
The 2014 CDP, which included 260 villages, is also being revised and modified to incorporate new features and ensure enhanced facilities and better infrastructure for residents.
“There are at least 560 villages under the BDA Bhubaneswar area. We have sent a proposal to the government to add another 143 villages. The area of the 560 villages is around 1122sqkm. But the CDP plan has only been made for 260 villages. The CDP of the remaining villages is in the final stage. We have already reached out to people and everything is in the last stage,” informed N. Thirumala Naik, Vice Chairman of BDA.
“Only 20 villages are left to be reached. At present, the existing CDP of the 200 and above villages, of the core Bhubaneswar area, we are trying for their modification. Actually, CDP is for a maximum of 10 years. Since we have reached 2025, we have put out a tender to choose an agency for the process of the modification of the existing CDP,” he added.
The initiative, officials added, is aimed at streamlining development, improving urban planning, and boosting amenities in both urban and peri-urban areas surrounding Bhubaneswar.
