The seven students who were involved in the scuffle with the Army officer and his fiancee
In a new twist to the alleged assault on an Indian Army officer and his fiancee, the Odisha Crime Branch is contemplating conducting a lie detector test on the five suspended cops of Bharatpur police station and the Army Major’s fiancee.
The Crime Branch is exploring the possibility of conducting the lie detector test on the five cops, facing charges of custodial abuse. The investigating will also conduct the test on the fiancee of the Army Major who has been accused of misconduct towards the on-duty police personnel in the police station.
The probe agency said a polygraph test may be necessary to verify allegations and counter allegations before reaching a logical conclusion.
The absence of CCTV cameras at the police station has made it difficult for the Crime Branch to ascertain the truth.
On the other hand, the seven ‘road romeos’, reportedly students of two engineering colleges, because of whom the whole scuffle started were released on bail soon after their arrest on Saturday. The seven were detained by Chandaka police but were soon released on bail within four hours.
Meanwhile, the family members of one of the lady cops, who have been suspended, resorted to protest outside the Bhubaneswar 120 Battalion office. Family members of the cops alleged partiality in the probe and demanded her suspension to be revoked.
However, there has been increasing pressure from various quarters on the Crime Branch with the Opposition targeting the state government on the issue.
