Khordha Superintendent of Police on Monday transferred Begunia Police Station IIC Biswajit Routray to the district headquarters following reports of siphoning off seized crackers and liquor from the police station premises on Saturday night.

A team of police officials from the Begunia Police Station had raided an illegal cracker manufacturing unit at Kantabada village on Saturday night and seized a huge cache of crackers. A person was also arrested. In another raid, police also seized a car loaded with liquor from near Begunia stadium.

The seized crackers and liquor were kept on the police station premises. At about 1 AM, home guard Prakash Muduli and a driver were going out of the police station in a private van loaded with the seized crackers and liquor.

Just at that time, local sarpanch Satyanarayan Pradhan and some villagers intercepted the vehicle and asked the home guard about the reason behind the shifting of the seized crackers and liquor. However, home guard Prakash Muduli could not respond satisfactorily.

The home guard and the driver were later arrested.

In this incident, IIC Routray's role was also questioned, following which he has been transferred.
