At least nine class-10 girl students and a teacher of Harichandanpur Girls High School in Keonjhar district were injured after a swarm of bees attacked them when they arrived at the school for the ongoing matric examinations.

As per reports, the incident happened when the students arrived at the school gate for their exams at around 7 am in the morning. The bees from a nearby beehive attacked them stinging nine of them.

A teacher was also stung by the bees.

Sumanti Mohanta, a student said, “I was on my way to the examination centre on a bicycle when the bees attacked me. They stung me at several places leaving me in pain during the entire examination. I could not write the examination due to the pain. I request the administration to relocate these beehives otherwise it would not be safe for us to come to this examination centre.”

A teacher of the school, Kalakar Mohanta said, “When students arrived at the school for their exams at around 7:15 am, the bees suddenly attacked them. We informed the medical team immediately. We sent the injured students to the hospital. While one student was administered an injection at the hospital, the others were discharged from the hospital after first aid.”

It is alleged that contrary to claims by teachers about immediate treatment, the students were forced to write their examination papers and were provided medical treatment only after the exams were over.
