A bear fell into an abandoned well early on Saturday morning at Chakrapala village under Kaptipada forest range in Odisha's Mayurbhanj, prompting a swift response from the forest department. The animal has remained trapped for several hours, with forest officials continuing their efforts to rescue it.

Spotted by Villagers Early Morning

A local villager, recounting the incident, said, “I saw a bear hovering around the well which made me curious. But I was scared to approach in case it would attack me. However, after some time, the bear went away. I went near the well to inspect what the bear was doing here. It was then that I saw the bear submerged inside the well.”

He further added, “It has been a few hours since I located the bear inside the well, I found it there at 04:00 am. The well is also quite deep, it’s about 70–80 feet in depth.”

The bear had likely wandered into the area in search of food and water before accidentally falling into the well, located in a field near the village.

Forest Officials Continue Rescue Efforts

After receiving information from the villagers, forest department officials rushed to the spot and initiated rescue operations. Despite several attempts, the bear remains trapped, and efforts are ongoing. The operation has drawn attention from local residents, many of whom have gathered nearby to observe the situation.

The forest department confirmed that the rescue is being handled with utmost caution to ensure the safety of both the bear and the rescue team. Officials have assured that every measure is being taken to retrieve the animal from the well safely.
