People carry BDO on shoulders
When Himanchala Majhi joined Mathili block in Malkangiri district as the Block Development Officer (BDO), he would never have imagined that he would be accorded an emotional adieu at the time of his transfer.
Majhi, during his short span of posting in Mathili block, is said to have won the hearts of the people in Mathili by always making himself available for the people.
What the rapport Majhi established with the people and how the people loved him became evident on his last day as the BDO.
The residents of Mathili turned up in huge numbers, and organised a traditional procession, signifying their appreciation for his contributions to the area.
The procession was taken out through the lanes and bylanes of the town with the people carrying Majhi on their shoulders and some dancing to the traditional tunes. Majhi was so overwhelmed by the unconditional love and affection pouring in for him that he couldn’t help dancing with the people, making them realize he was not an officer but one among them. People too dotted both sides of the roads, bidding their emotional adieu to their beloved officer. They were all in tears.
In a remote district like Malkangiri, it is very rare to see people turning up in such huge numbers to bid adieu to any administrative officer.
Majhi, who leaves behind a legacy of development and community upliftment, will commence his new role in the Kalahandi district soon, leaving an indelible mark on Mathili.
