The Revenue and Disaster Management Department on Wednesday announced that all the state government offices, as well as Revenue and Magisterial Courts (Executive) shall remain closed on July 8, 2024, the day following Rath Yatra.

Apart from the government offices and Magisterial Courts, all the banks and other banking institutions will also remain closed on Rath Yatra.

Earlier, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Majhi had announced a two-day holiday as Rath Yatra will be observed for two days this year.

While chairing a high-level meeting to review preparations for the annual Rath Yatra of Lord Jagannath and his siblings recently in Puri, Odisha CM Mohan Majhi said that a similar rare two-day festival was last observed in 1971.

In its notification, the Revenue and Disaster Management Department stated that the Government of Odisha has been pleased to declare, under the explanation to section 25 of the Negotiable Instrument Act, 1881, read with the notification of Government of India, Ministry of Home Affairs dated June 8, 1957, the public holidays, expressly defined in the said explanation, a holiday on July 8, 2024 for the banks and other banking institutions in Odisha on the occasion of Rath Yatra.
