Earlier, Bhubaneswar police had apprehended Abdul Sayadul Suleman from the Jharpada area. A couple, Om Prakash Chaudhury and Jasmine Chaudhury, faced arrest in the Gopalpur locality under Sadar Police limits in Cuttack City. Additionally, a woman identified as Smita Das was also taken into custody following her arrest from Keonjhar district.
The six accused persons have been arrested amidst growing efforts to trace the movement and exploitation of the young Bangladeshi girl across various areas in Odisha. Investigators suggest that more suspects might be implicated as the inquiry progresses.
Gopi had earlier evaded arrest, remaining at large until recent developments. The case was initiated when allegations concerning the minor’s trafficking were formally registered in November last year at Madhupatna police station and a probe initiated.
“A minor girl was rescued from Madhupatna locality on November 11, 2024. Subsequently, she lodged an FIR on November 23. We have arrested two persons in connection with the trafficking case from Dhauli of Bhubaneswar,” Cuttack DCP Jagmohan Meena said.
“The two arrested are Rajani Kanta Behera alias Gopi and D. Shiva Kumar Dora. Both of them belong to the Ganjam district. The duo was forwarded to court today,” the DCP added.
