Bangladesh unrest: Collectors, SPs directed to identify infiltrators, says Odisha CM in Assembly

Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Majhi on Monday said that already the state government has directed for the identification of Bangladeshi infiltrators. Majhi informed this in the Odisha Assembly while replying to a question by MLA Bhaskar Madhei.

The unrest in Bangladesh that led to a change in government has brought the focus back on the infiltrators who are staying in different parts of Odisha, especially in Kendrapara, Bhubaneswar and Puri.

Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Majhi on Monday said that already the state government has directed for the identification of Bangladeshi infiltrators. Majhi informed this in the Odisha Assembly while replying to a question by MLA Bhaskar Madhei.

In his question, MLA Bhaskar Madhei wanted to know what steps the Odisha government has taken to identify Bangladeshi infiltrators in several parts of the state, including Kendrapara, Bhubaneswar and Puri.

In his reply, the Chief Minister informed the Assembly that all Collectors and SPs have been directed to identify Bangladeshi infiltrators in their respective jurisdictions. The directions have been issued with a focus on Kendrapara, Bhubaneswar and Puri district.

Sources said that the identification of Bangladeshi infiltrators would be done through a committee at block-tehsil and police station level. Bangladeshi Infiltrators in Odisha

Earlier, the previous BJD government had informed that it had identified 3,740 Bangladeshi infiltrators who are staying in the state. The infiltrators were mostly staying in Bargarh, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur and Bhubaneswar urban police districts.

As per the written reply by CM Majhi in the House today, the total number of Bangladeshi infiltrators is 2 in Bargarh, 199 in Bhadrak, 1649 in Kendrapara, 17 in Bhubaneswar, 1112 in Jagatsinghpur, 655 in Malkangiri and 106 in Nabarangpur.
