Situation is limping back to normalcy in Balasore which recently remained on the edge following a clash between two groups. The district administration and police officials are keeping a close surveillance over the entire incident.

So far, 34 persons have been arrested in connection with the group clash while 30 others have been detained for violating the curfew restrictions.

It is pertinent to mention here that a clash between two groups was reported on June 17 after some locals spotted the water flowing in the drain near the locality turning red.

As the news spread, people staged a protest and blocked the Chandipur-Balasore main road. Soon people from the other side reached the spot and a clash erupted. Stones were also pelted following the incident.

On June 18, the district administration had to clamp curfew in the entire Balasore Municipality area for an indefinite period to bring the situation under control. Balasore Collector Ashish Thakare on Wednesday informed that curfew is continuing and the overall situation is under control.

“We are reviewing all aspects and the next decision on curfew will be taken after reviewing the situation this evening,” said Thakare. The Balasore Collector further informed that so far over 34 persons have been arrested. Several FIRs have been filed and action is being taken as per law in connection with any incident being reported on the ground, he said.

“Essential services supply is being ensured and our priority is to keep the situation under control, and enforcement is also being done,” Thakare added.
