Days after fissures in the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) came to light in Kendrapara and Cuttack districts, the ruling party seems to be a divided house in Balasore too as some party leaders were seen leading separate Janasampark Padayatra in Sora.

According to reports, a faction of the BJD leaders led by the party’s district unit vice president Ashok Kumar Nayak has come out in the open challenging the leadership of Sora MLA Parsuram Dhada. The ruling party workers led by Nayak along with many frontline leaders on Sunday organised a parallel padayatra in Soro, even though the MLA had earlier held a similar programme in the constituency.

Scores of party workers from Bahanaga and Sora blocks, owing their allegiance to Nayak, took part in the padayatra by placing the MLA in bad light alleging that as the MLA is anti-people, he should not be handed out the leadership.

Talking to reporters on the sidelines of the public contact programme, Sarat Raj, a frontline party worker lambasted the MLA while accusing the legislator of sidelining and agonizing scores of party workers and functionaries.

“The legislator has pushed aside many sarpanchs, samiti members, zilla parishad members, party functionaries and workers who were kept away from taking part in the padayatra. The sidelined party workers got together and organised this public contact programme against him,” Raj lamented.

Ashok Kumar Nayak also took a sharp dig at MLA Parsuram Dhada, saying, “The legislator is anti-people and should not be allowed to take the baton of leadership in Sora in the days to come. Through this parallel padayatra, we are trying to reach out to the party’s top leadership to voice our opposition to the legislator.”

Worth mentioning here that a few days ago, a group of party workers disenchanted with Dhada had gathered at Maa Tarini shrine at Ghatagaon in Keonjhar district. They had taken a vow at the religious shrine to vote against the MLA in the upcoming Assembly election if he is given a chance again by the BJD.
