The overall flood situation in Bhadrak district is registering a gradual improvement with Baitarini river now flowing below the danger mark. As per the district administration officials, around 1, 81,000 people from 312 villages in four blocks of the district have been affected in the season's first flood this year.

Apart from this, 3200 hectares of agricultural land and 6,000 livestock have been affected in the flood in the district. Even though floodwater is gradually receding, there has been no change in the plight of the people who are still marooned. Floodwater is also flowing on several roads, thereby affected movement of vehicular traffic. Three persons have died in separate flood-related incidents while there has also been extensive damage to houses as well. A detailed damage assessment will be done only after floodwater recedes, said district Collector.

The district administration today ordered for closure of all government and private schools as floodwater is yet to recede from several parts in Dhamnagar block.

Hirakud Status

As per official sources, the water level of Hirakud dam stood at 620.10 ft by 6 am today. Excess water is being released through 12 gates of the dam.

Khordha Flood

Several parts of Khorda district have been affected due to floods in Daya and Rajua river. Three villages in Orabarasingh panchayat have been cut-off from rest of the world. Local residents allege that they face similar problems during rainy season. Floodwater has also entered Hirimul village and the main road is also submerged in 3 ft water. The administration had provided two boats, only one is being used as the other one has been damaged.

"Much before the release of water from Hirakud, our area even gets submerged after heavy rainfall. The locals are facing issues due to this," alleged a local resident.

Paradip Flood

The flood situation in Kujang area in Paradip has improved a bit. However, people are still marooned in several places. The flood has adversely hit the farmers here as agricultural land and standing vegetable crops in several pockets have been submerged. The farmers are now staring at an uncertain future.

Breach In Salandi River

A 30-ft breach has developed in Salandi river near Talagopabindha Padasahi area in Bhadrak district. Several panchayats are facing problems as floodwater has entered into the region for the past two years. Already the Water Resources Department has started measures to repair the breach.

Nayagarh Flood Updates

As many as 60 villages of five panchayats under Gania block of Nayagarh district are now marooned due to floods in Mahanadi basin. Though the floodwater has partially receded, it has not provided much respite to the people in these areas. The farmers have been worst hit as several crops including brinjals, paddy and other vegetables are now submerged in floodwaters.
