At the heart of this new initiative is the distribution of health benefit cards, with Union Health Minister JP Nadda expected at the state-level launch ceremony to oversee the formal commencement of these health schemes. Plans are in place to distribute these cards at all 1,405 primary health centres (PHCs) across the State.

Health card distribution plan

Following the ceremonial kickoff, efforts to issue both Ayushman Bharat and Gopabandhu Jan Arogya cards will continue. Itinerant health workers and service providers from the Common Services Centres (CSC) will ensure that every village is reached and that villagers receive their cards.

New health insurance cards will be provided to the beneficiaries already registered under existing schemes. Until recipients receive their new identification, they will be able to access medical services using their current card numbers or through their Aadhaar number.

The Health Department will spearhead campaigns to educate people about this transition, ensuring a smooth and informed changeover.

“The Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY) and Gopabandhu Jan Arogya Yojana will jointly be rolled out from April 11 and distribution of the cards will also begin. A state-level event is to be organised where the Union Health Minister (JP Nadda) will initiate the distribution of health cards,” Health Secretary Aswathy S expressed.

“All existing beneficiaries will get the new cards. However, the beneficiaries can continue to access medical services using their current card numbers or Aadhaar numbers until they receive their new identification,” the Health Secretary added.
