Jatra Artist Union throws weight behind Nari Panda
The Jatra Artist Union in Odisha has announced its support for Nari Panda on Wednesday amidst ongoing conflict with Jatra owners, stating it is prepared to suspend performances if necessary.
As per reports, Bapi Panda, the advisor to the Employee-Artist Union, emphasised this stance during a recent presser, underlining their commitment to stand by Nari until justice is achieved.
Addressing media personnel, Bapi raised concerns regarding the lack of CCTV footage allegedly capturing Nari Panda's mistreatment by Jatra owners. He indicated that Nari had been subjected to coercion and undue pressure, and argued that steps would be taken to lodge a complaint with the Director General of Police (DGP) if a satisfactory resolution was not reached.
Bapi proposed that a polygraph test for both involved parties could clarify the truth. He expressed hope for a resolution, suggesting that ego on the part of jatra party owners was a barrier to peace.
The union remains hopeful that another round of discussion with the jatra party owners can yield a mutually acceptable conclusion to the disputes, provided the owners demonstrate a willingness to negotiate.
The cultural significance of jatra in Odisha underscores the importance of a peaceful resolution for artists and audiences alike.

"Jatra Artist Union will remain with Nari Panda until he gets justice. Where did the CCTV camera vanish from the Dhaba room where Nari was called and the deal was made? We demand a polygraph test of both parties to determine whether they are telling the truth or not. If the investigation into the matter is not satisfactory, we will lodge a complaint with the Director General of Police (DGP) to form a separate team to carry out the investigation," said Bapi Panda.
However, no comments in this regard could be obtained from the Jatra Party Owners' Association.
