Candidates stage protest in Bhubaneswar

Aspiring Hindi and Sanskrit teachers on Monday staged a unique protest by conducting mock classes under trees at Lower PMG in Bhubaneswar.

They alleged that even though many aspiring teachers have done their BEd in Hindi and Sanskrit since 2014, candidates from Arts and Science streams are being appointed.

“There are many aspiring candidates with BEd in Hindi and Sanskrit. Yet, the government is appointing non-Hindi and non-Sanskrit candidates. We can’t understand why the government is doing this. Since 2020, we have raised our grievances on several forums including meeting the Chief Minister. We are getting assurances and nothing else,” said an agitating aspiring teacher.

Another female protestor said, “A normal BEd candidate can’t teach Sanskrit as well as a candidate with BEd in Sanskrit.”

Another candidate with a BEd in Hindi echoed the same.

No reactions were received from the state government.
