Days after a 10-year-old boy was allegedly dragged and killed by a crocodile while taking a bath in Brahmani River in Kendrapara, another woman also fell victim to a similar attack in the district on Wednesday.

The incident has been reported from Hatiagadi village under Rajnagar block in the district.

The deceased has been identified as Sita Das (40)

According to sources, the mishap took place when Sita had gone to a nearby canal to wash utensils.

It is alleged that a crocodile dragged her and took her deep into the water. On being informed about the incident, the Fire Services team rushed to the village.

“Sita had gone to the canal at around 1 pm to wash utensils. But she was killed in the crocodile attack,” said a relative of the deceased.

After a frantic search operation, which lasted for around three hours, the body of the deceased was fished out from the canal.

Meanwhile, irate locals staged a road blockade on the Rajnagar-Bhitarkanika route at Jarimula holding the Forest Department responsible for the mishap.

No comments from the Forest Department officials have been received in this regard.

It is worthwhile to mention here that one Ashutosh Acharya, a Class 5 student of Nimpur village under Pattamundai block in Kendrapara district, was allegedly dragged and killed by a crocodile last Wednesday.
