Another elephant calf found dead in Narsinghpur forest range
Tragedy struck the Narsinghpur East forest range once again, with the death of an eight-month-old elephant calf near Kandhabadabhui village, inside the Debabhui RF Compartment No. 5.
According to forest officials, the calf had been seen wandering in an ailing condition for the past few days. Locals reported spotting the carcass lying near a canal for the last two days. Upon receiving the information, the East Forest Division team rushed to the spot, conducted a post-mortem examination, and later buried the carcass.
The incident was confirmed by Assistant Conservator of Forests (ACF) Manoj Kumar Patra.
When contacted, ACF Athagarh, Manoj Kumar Patra said, “An elephant calf, part of a 10-pachyderm herd, was unwell for a couple of days. Our staff detected it lying dead in a canal near Kandhabadabhui village, inside the Debabhui RF Compartment No. 5. It was around 6-8 months and was lying dead since last 1-2 days. Patrolling is being done meticulously as an elephant herd is wandering around in the forest.”
