Puja held to find hidden gold kalash
A group of villagers allegedly sacrificed a goat and chicken in order to recover a ‘gold kalash’ at Matiguda village of Nayagarh district.
A villager, identified as Jatnakar Jani, and a priest told a group of villagers about the hidden treasure and later a special puja was organised in the village. On getting instructions from the duo, steps were subsequently taken to dig a 5 ft deep trench to recover the gold kalash.
Those, who were instigating people to believe in such superstitious acts, left the spot after another group of villagers reached the puja spot.
The villagers also apprised the local police station about such superstition activity and soon senior officials rushed to the spot. However, the persons misleading the people fled the spot.
“We do not accept such things and it is pure superstition. Most of the people believe such old customs, but things are changing due to development and education among the masses,” said Ramchandra Jani, a local resident.
IIC of Banigochha police station, Sanjay Malick said, “No major incident has happened only a spot was dug and people left the area. People said that the pit was dug after they were told a gold kalash will be recovered from the spot. We urge people not to believe in people spreading such superstition."
