Amid Dhanteras gold rush, jewellery shops raided by CT&GST dept in Odisha

While gold and silver jewellery stores across Odisha witnessed a heavy rush on the occasion of Dhanteras on Tuesday, a team of CT&GST carried out raids at multiple jewellery shops in Sambalpur.

According to sources, a team of CT&GST raided three showrooms of a gold jewellery trader at Marwari Bazaar in Sambalpur today.

The team inspected the jewellery stocks and verified various documents during the raid on the showrooms, sources informed.

“We are conducting simultaneous raids at three places taking various aspects into consideration. As part of the raids, the jewellery stock will be inspected and necessary documents will be verified,” said Tekchand Meher, deputy commissioner, CT&GST.

Notably, jewellery shops across Odisha have been witnessing a huge rush of customers as buying gold on the occasion of Dhanteras is considered auspicious. Despite soaring price of the yellow metal, people were seen rushing to buy gold on the auspicious occasion.

While the jewellery stores have rolled out a plethora of lucrative schemes and offering discounts on making charges to lure customers, the soaring price of gold could not deter customers from visiting the stores.
