A 108 ambulance driver went the extra mile to save an expectant mother and her baby. The incident of the ambulance driver turning Good Samaritan was reported from Mudulipada Kichapada village under Khairaput block in Malkangiri district on Sunday.

According to a source, Shukri Krishani, wife of Babu Krishani, a resident of Mudulipada Kichapada village went into labour on Sunday morning. The family members immediately dialled 108 to shift Shukri to hospital.

The ambulance arrived in the area soon after, but couldn’t reach the woman's house due to lack of motorable road. The ambulance stopped at a place, eight kilometres away from Shukri’s house.

But for the worried family members, ambulance driver Naresh Sarddar turned out to be a real godsend.

Without losing any moment, Naresh got down from the vehicle and walked to the village. With the help of other family members, he prepared a sling and carried Shukri in it till the ambulance.

Then he drove the ambulance to Khairaput community health centre (CHC). Later, she was shifted to Mathili government hospital for better treatment.

However, Naresh is lapping up praises from different quarters for his humanitarian gesture.
