Traditional huts at the Adivasi Mela in Bhubaneswar
In a fresh boost to showcase the rich cultural heritage and diversity of Odisha, the 2025 edition of the Adivasi Mela will begin today, on the 5th of January, at the Exhibition Ground in Bhubaneswar and continue until the 16th of this month.
Elaborate preparations for the fair had been underway for at least a month with hundreds of native tribals from various regions of the state working tirelessly to showcase the art and heritage of their cultures.
Among the fair's main attractions are the Adivasi Village and Adivasi Market, which have houses made in traditional and authentic styles, stalls showcasing Odia tribal art and culture, a food court, and live demonstrations.
Visitors to the Adivasi Mela this year will witness over twenty tribal huts and about 150 stalls selling tribal products. Moreover, 40 stalls highlighting tribal art and culture and over 15 stalls conducting live demonstrations will be in place starting today.
On an additional note, this year’s fair will also feature a dedicated pavilion showcasing the life of Birsa Munda, and adjoining it will be a gallery displaying the tales from the Indian Independence struggle.
To enthrall and soak visitors in Odia culture, folk art, and songs, every evening will feature tribal dance and music performances by artists representing almost all regions of the state.
Incidentally, the Adivasi Mela has been organized a few weeks ahead of schedule this year in view of the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas scheduled to kick off in Odisha on 8th January, with a host of visitors from across the globe expected to throng the state.
