A 22-year-old man, named Surjyakant Sethi, allegedly murdered his parents and sister with a stone and wooden club late last night at Jayabada village under Jagatsinghpur Sadar police station limits in Odisha.
Incident Details:
Sources said that the accused attacked his father Prashant Sethi, mother Kanaklata, and sister Rosaline following a heated argument at their home. He reportedly bludgeoned them to death with a stone and a wooden club.
Sources also added that after committing the murder, he informed his neighbours before fleeing the scene.

Accused is Claimed to Be Mentally Unstable:
The other family members and relatives of the accused claimed that he was mentally unstable. Surjyakant’s elder brother, Ramakanta Sethi said that his brother was behaving erratically of late, and was engaged in frequent heated discussions with the family members.
“He used to showcase unpredictable behaviour and would disappear for hours every day without informing anyone. He was also engaged in repeated heated arguments with family members, and in the past five or six days such behaviour grew rapidly,” added Sethi.
Gaming Addiction Angle:
Family members also revealed that Surjyakant had frequent clashes with his parents over his alleged addiction to online games. Reports added that the accused would spend long hours gaming, a factor that may have influenced his mental state.

Police Investigation:
After receiving the information, Jagatsinghpur SP Bhavani Shankar Udgata visited the crime scene and reviewed the situation. Additionally, police recovered a blood-stained wooden club allegedly used in the gruesome act.
“The accused is stated to be mentally unstable and we have received inputs for the same. All angles will be probed and a post-mortem of the dead bodies will be done,” stated the SP.
