At least five persons were injured in an acid attack during a group clash at Duajhar village under Khariar police station limits in Nuapada district on Thursday.

All the injured were initially admitted to Khariar Hospital. Later, two of them were shifted to Nuapada District Headquarters Hospital as their condition deteriorated.

As per reports, there was a heated exchange between two families over setting up a gold jewellery-making shop. Soon, the incident snowballed into a major clash and both the groups became violent. People from both sides hurled acid on either side in which five people sustained burn injuries. 

While a man and his two sons were injured, a couple from the other family was hurt in the acid attack. Two among them, who are stated to be critical, have suffered 30-40 per cent injury.

As per sources, both families had a conflict over the gold jewellery-making shop for a long time which eventually erupted into a violent clash.

Though no complaint has been filed yet, Khariar police reached the spot and pacified both groups.
