Pramod Sahu sentenced to 12 years in jail for an acid attack on a father and son in Phulbani, with a Rs 50,000 fine or additional six months if unpaid.

In 2023, an acid attack in the Phulbani Town police station area shocked the local community when accused Pramod Sahu threw acid on a man and his son. Both were seriously injured in the attack and were admitted to Phulbani Hospital for treatment.

In this case, the Additional District and Sessions Judge Court in Phulbani has now sentenced Pramod Kumar Sahu to 12 years of rigorous imprisonment. The judgment was based on the testimonies of 17 witnesses who provided supporting evidence during the trial.

In addition to the prison sentence, the court imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 on the accused. If he fails to pay the fine, he will have to undergo an additional six months of rigorous imprisonment, as per the court’s directive.

Siba Prasad Tripathy, government counsel, said, “The Additional District and Sessions Judge Court announced the verdict on Phulbani town’s most talked about acid attack case, in which a father-son duo were attacked.”

He further stated, “The convicted individual was sentenced to 12 years of rigorous imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 50,000. If the fine is not paid, another six months of jail term will be added to the 12 years.”

The sentencing concludes a case that had drawn significant attention due to the brutal nature of the attack and its impact on the victims.
