In a heart-wrenching incident, an 80-year-old elderly woman has been left battling for life without any food for the past six days after allegedly being thrashed and thrown out of her house. The incident has been reported from Shyamdaspur of Odisha’s Chandbali block in Bhadrak district.

Despite having four sons, daughters-in-laws, and seven grandchildren, the elderly woman, identified as Kaushalya Kar, has been left to fend for herself. Unable to walk, she has waiting for death alongside the main road near the village.

“I have four sons, four daughters-in-laws, and 7 grandchildren. But, they beat me up and threw me out of the house. I haven’t eaten anything for the past six days,” the ailing woman, unable to speak properly due to weakness, said in a low voice.

“They do not give food and beat me up. Even my daughter-in-laws are beating me up,” alleged Kaushalya.

Irony, no government help has reached her despite the elderly woman suffering at the hands of her sons for the last 15 years after the death of her husband. She survives with whatever local villagers feed her out of sympathy.

“I have to beg for food from villagers. Some take pity and give me food while others turn me away. I hardly get to eat once in two-three days,” she further added.

When contacted, villagers claimed that it was her personal family matter and they had no role in it.

“This has been going on for the last several years. She comes to the village, then again goes away. She survives with whatever people give her. Since it is their family matter, we are tight-lipped about it,” said a villager.

On the other hand, her sons and daughter-in-laws refrained to comment on the matter.

“We are giving her food. You can ask the villagers if you want,” said the son of the elderly woman.
