8-foot cobra spends hours beside sleeping man in Odisha, leaves him unharmed

In a spine-chilling incident, a highly venomous cobra was discovered coiled inside a mosquito net while a man slept peacefully, unaware of the danger inches away from his head. The bizarre incident took place at Pratappur village on the outskirts of Baripada town in Mayurbhanj district.

According to locals, the man had gone to bed as usual on Monday night, but a large cobra, nearly eight feet long, slithered inside his mosquito net and remained curled up beside him through the night.

It was only in the morning that family members spotted the snake resting dangerously close to the sleeping man, triggering panic in the household. Shockingly, the reptile did not harm the man despite spending hours inside the net.

The family immediately informed a trained snake rescuer. Krishna Chandra Gochhayat, a member of the Snake Helpline, rushed to the spot and safely rescued the cobra before releasing it back into the wild as per forest rules.

The incident has left villagers stunned, many calling it nothing short of a miracle that the man escaped unharmed despite spending the night beside one of the region’s most venomous snakes.

“I was asleep and suddenly found the snake lying beside me. We informed the snake rescue team. The reptile was later rescued and released into the forest,” said the house owner.
