The tourists and the lift operator were trapped inside the lift for more than 45 minutes after it suddenly stopped functioning midway.

Later, the tourists were rescued with help of local shopkeepers and police, sources informed adding that all of them have been admitted to Capital Hospital.

“The lift with seven-eight tourists stopped midway after it developed technical snag. We immediately rushed to the spot and people are crying for help. Finding no other option, we called the local police station,” said a shopkeeper.

“The lift operator was also stranded inside the elevator. Later, we opened the door of the elevator with the help of a screwdriver and rescued all of them,” he added.
