6 minor boys injured in explosion while making firecrackers in Ganjam

At least six minor boys sustained severe injuries in an explosion while making firecrackers inside a house at Mankipur village under Khallikote block in Ganjam district on Wednesday.

All the injured were rushed to the nearby hospital. Later, four of them were shifted to Berhampur Hospital for advanced treatment as their condition deteriorated.

As per reports, six minor boys were making firecrackers from gunpowder inside an isolated house in the Nuasahi area of the village at around 2.30 pm. A severe explosion took place while they were making firecrackers and in the process, six class X students were critically injured.

The explosion was so severe that the asbestos roof and two walls of the house blew away. 

Upon being informed, the police and scientific team reached the spot and started an investigation into the incident. The bomb squad is also expected to reach the spot soon.

As per sources, the minor boys were illegally preparing firecrackers at the house by collecting gunpowder for the upcoming Diwali festival.

However, the cause of the explosion is yet to be ascertained.
