Family members and parents of a five-month-old baby girl who died due to alleged medical negligence at Udala government hospital in Mayurbhanj district staged a protest with the body outside the hospital on Thursday.

According to family members, a local ASHA worker administered an injection shot to the infant, following which she fell ill. Witnessing her health condition deteriorating, the family members rushed her to the Udala medical late at night. However, the family alleged that due to the absence of the doctor and medical staff in the Medicine ward, no proper medication could be administered to their patient.

Dinesh Bagal, uncle of the deceased child said, “When we reached the hospital, we couldn’t find anyone. We went looking for the medical staff but there was no one available. While the doctor was sleeping, the nurses were absent. When we found the doctor, he sent us to the second floor to find the nurses.

Then we were redirected to another floor to get a ticket. By the time help arrived, the child had already died."

No reactions could be obtained from the hospital authorities.
