When the people in Odisha were yet to recover from the shocking incident in which a woman killed her son by slitting his throat, another man allegedly killed his 5-month-old in a tipsy condition in the state. The fresh incident has been reported from Cherengajhanja village under Paikamal police limits of Bargarh district late Saturday night. The accused father has been identified as Hemant Bhue.

While no exact reason for the heinous crime was confirmed immediately, quarrels with his wife and habitual drinking habits are suspected to be the reason behind the murder.

According to sources, Hemant is a habitual drunkard and would often return home in a drunken state. He spent all the money on drinks which led to frequent altercations between him and his wife.

As usual, Hemant returned home in a drunken state last night and entered into a fight with his wife. He asked his wife for money and grew furious after she denied giving him any money. Things escalated and soon led to verbal altercations between the husband and wife.

However, things took an ugly turn after Hemant got furious and slammed his 5-month-old son to the ground, leading to his death on the spot. Angry locals thrashed him black and blue before informing the cops.

On being informed, police reached the village and detained Hemant while a further probe into the incident has been launched.

Locals attributed violence and disputes in families to the easy availability of liquor in the area. Despite repeated complaints, the local administration turned a deaf ear to end liquor selling in the area, locals alleged.
