At least five persons were killed and another person was injured in two separate road mishaps in Odisha on early Wednesday morning.

The first incident was reported from Koraput where three persons were killed and another was injured after the car, they were travelling in plunged into a gorge on Sunki Ghat near Jodimadeli under Pottangi police limits on early Wednesday morning.

The injured have been rushed to Koraput District Headquarters Hospital for treatment.

As per reports, all the occupants of the SUV belonged to the same family and were going to Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh from Chhattisgarh’s Rajnandgaon.

While the exact reason of the mishap is yet to be ascertained, it is suspected that the SUV veered of the road on the ghat and plunged into a 100-metre-deep gorge, either due to dense fog or after the driver dozed off.

In another tragic accident, two bicycle riders were killed after a speeding car hit them near Jharmunda village under Badagaon police limits in Sundargarh district on Wednesday morning.

Both the deceased belonged to Jharmunda village and on their way to Badagaon on a bicycle for some work when a car hit them killing both on the spot.

The car fled the spot after hitting the bicycle.

A palpable tension was witnessed in the area after the accident with the family of the deceased demanding appropriate compensation for the deaths.
