Five Kanwariyas lost their lives and 14 others were injured in two separate road mishaps in Odisha on Monday.
On Monday morning, two kanwariyas were killed while 11 others sustained serious injuries after a car rammed into them near Bhetnoi, a few kilometres away from Berhampur in Ganjam district.
The incident occurred while at least 17 kanwariyas were carrying the holy water from Aska to Tadakeswar Temple in Arakhpur village. A speeding car rammed into the kanwariyas killing one of them on the spot while another breathed his last while undergoing treatment at Berhampur-based MKCG Medical College and Hospital (MKCG).
Later in the evening, three other Kanwariyas died when a trailer truck rammed into an autorickshaw they were travelling in at Khureitangiri toll plaza on NH-49 in Keonjhar district.
As per reports, seven Kanwariyas were returning home after offering holy water at Patana Shiva shrine in an autorickshaw when the trailer hit them from behind.
Following the mishap the trailer fled the spot. While one Kanwariya died on the spot, two others succumbed at the hospital. Three Kanwariyas were also injured in the mishap.
