4 YO girl, 5 YO boy charred to death as fire engulfs thatched hut in Odisha

A fatal fire in Talabora village, Kalahandi district, claimed the lives of a 4-year-old girl and a 5-year-old boy. The children were alone at home while their mother, Susari Majhi, was collecting firewood. Neighbours alerted by the screams of the two kids attempted to save the duo but to no avail.

In a heart-wrenching incident in Odisha's Kalahandi district, two young children tragically lost their lives when flames engulfed their thatched hut. The fatal blaze occurred at Talabora village of Lakhabahali panchayat under Lanjigarh block on Tuesday.

The victims were identified as a 4-year-old girl and a 5-year-old boy.

According to sources, the disaster unfolded while the children's mother, Susari Majhi, was in the nearby forest collecting firewood, leaving the children unattended at home.

Neighbours, alerted by the children's cries and the sight of the fire, attempted to intervene but could do little by the time the woman returned from the forest.

The blaze had already claimed the young lives, casting a pall of mourning over the village community.
