Infant rescued
A four-month-old baby boy, which was allegedly kept unlawfully, was rescued from a BJD councillor’s house at Remuna in Balasore on Saturday.
The incident has since been the talk of the town here.
As per reports, a complaint was lodged with the district Collector alleging that the BJD councillor of Ward No-11 of Remuna had kept a four-month-old infant unlawfully. Acting on the direction of the Collector, the Child Line staff rescued the infant from her house.
As if keeping the infant unlawfully was not enough, the councillor had allegedly employed a 10 to 12 year-old-girl to keep a watch on the infant.

“We came to know that BJD’s councillor of Ward No-11 had stolen a three-month-old baby boy from somewhere and kept it in her house. Several people complained to me that the infant had been crying for not getting the mother’s milk. She also employed a 10 to 12-year-old girl to babysit. Yesterday, I took the matter up with the district Collector. I am thankful to him for his prompt action,” said Umakanta Panda, a former sarpanch, Mangalpur.
