4 labourers die as borewell truck runs over them while sleeping in Odisha’s Bargarh

In a tragic incident, four labourers lost their lives after a borewell truck reportedly ran them over at Birjam village under Bargarh’s Melchamunda police limits today morning.

Another labourer, who was seriously injured in this incident, was rushed to the hospital for treatment.

All the deceased reportedly belonged to Madhya Pradesh and were working with the borewell company.

As per reports, five labourers were sleeping under the boring pipe-laden truck when the vehicle ran them over.

Speaking about the incident, Padampur SDPO Bibhuti Bhasan Bhoi said, “The driver was reversing the truck when some workers standing behind the truck shouted at him to not move the truck towards them. So, the driver suddenly turned to the other side where the workers were sleeping and ran them over.”

“They were all involved in digging and installing tube well. We are questioning the people of the borewell contractor. We are trying to ascertain the identities of the deceased. Then, the inquest will be conducted,” Bhoi added.
