4 constables injured in attack by Army Major; ‘girlfriend’ bites woman SI in Bhubaneswar

As many as four constables and a woman Sub Inspector were injured when an Army major and his girlfriend allegedly attacked them at Bharatpur police station in Bhubaneswar on Sunday.

The Army Major has been identified as Gurbanta Singh, who is an employee of the 22 Sikh Regiment in Kolkata.

As per reports, Singh’s girlfriend was allegedly insulted by somebody on the road. Following the development, they visited the police station to complain about the incident. However, the police asked them to file a written complaint instead of a verbal complaint so that they would be able to take any action.

Subsequently, there was a heated exchange of words between Singh and the police. Subsequently, Singh lost his cool and allegedly attacked the police. In the process, four constables were injured. The woman SI was also injured as Singh’s girlfriend allegedly bit her.

In this regard, Bharatpur police has registered a case. Singh has been sent for a medical test after which he will be forwarded to court.

As per the allegation by police, Singh was in an inebriated condition and there were drugs in his vehicle.

Additional DSP reportedly reached the spot and questioned the woman SI about the matter. Further investigation into the incident is currently underway.
