Four children, including two siblings, fell seriously ill allegedly after consuming pesticide at Jhinkiria village under Tihidi block of Bhadrak district on Thursday.

While the identities of the children are yet to be ascertained, they are reportedly struggling for life at Bhadrak district headquarters hospital (DHH).

According to a source, four children, two siblings and a boy aged 18-month-old and a girl aged three-year-old from another family, were playing in farmland.

There was a pesticide bottle labeled as ‘Active-80’ lying in the field. While playing, they found the bottle and each drank from it.

Local people noticed the children behaving abnormally. Without losing any moment, they rushed the children to the Tihidi government hospital. Later, they were shifted to the Bhadrak district headquarters hospital (DHH).

“A villager first noticed them lying senseless in the field. After coming to know, we reached the spot and immediately rushed them to the hospital. They each drank from the bottle,” said a relative of the victims.

The doctors treating them said that they were under observation and would be referred to the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack if required.
