Though Odisha is currently observing zero road fatality week, there seems to be no respite from the increasing rate of road accidents in the State.

In a tragic incident, as many as three truck drivers were charred to death after their vehicles caught fire following a collision along National Highway 49 near Jharsuguda late Wednesday night.

In another accident, one person was killed when a car and truck collided head-on near Bidanasi Square in Cuttack on Wednesday night.

Apart from the death of one person on the spot, two others were seriously injured in the mishap. The injured have been admitted to SCB Medical College and Hospital and they are currently under treatment. The deceased and injured were from Dhenkanal district.

After getting the information, Bidanasi police reached the spot and seized the truck. The driver of the truck has been detained at the police station. Further investigation into the incident is currently underway.

As per police sources, the occupants in the car were from Dhenkanal. The car was moving on the wrong side of the road and the occupants were suspected to be in inebriated conditions.
