3 of family including couple, minor daughter killed in Korpaut car-tanker crash

Three members of a family were killed in a tragic accident at Pungar village under Pottangi block in Koraput district on Tuesday.

As per reports, the accident occurred along National Highway No 26 when the car in which a family was travelling collided with a tanker in the wee hours. The husband, wife and their little daughter died in the accident.

The identities of the deceased are yet to be ascertained.

The family was on their way from Baipariguda to Visakhapatnam in the car. In the meantime, a tanker was coming from the opposite direction towards Visakhapatnam from Damanjodi. Both the vehicles collided head-on at Pungar. All the family members died on the spot.

Local people rushed to the spot immediately and tried to pull out the victims. However, they were not successful as the car was badly damaged in the accident.

Upon being informed, Pottangi police reached the spot and tried to retrieve the bodies from the damaged car. The bodies will be sent to the nearby hospital for post-mortem.

Villagers have detained the tanker and its driver. Communication along the National Highway was affected following the accident.
